Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA)

The Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA Training) unit aims to provide staff working within the liquor industry with the knowledge and awareness necessary to responsibly serve alcohol in licensed premises. This nationally-recognised unit is currently approved for staff employed prior to 1 January 2009, for any new staff an OLGR approved RSA course must be undertaken (CFT offer OLGR classes). If in doubt, always check with your employer which type of RSA training they require you to complete. (Refer new change below and OLGR Mandatory Training Fact Sheet). The online RSA training course (SITHFAB009A - was THHBFB09B - Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol) is a unit from the Hospitality Training Package. CFT has customised its national unit to include Queensland legislation and Amendments, this is the national unit, so if the national course is valid for you, choose national unit edited for Qld students.

Please note that as from January 1 2009, the OLGR has made changes that:

All new staff employed after 1 January 2009 involved in the service and supply of liquor will require a current OLGR certificate in Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) training within 30 days of commencing employment (available  thru CFT in class for groups). RMLV staff training require an OLGR approved RSA certificate.  CFT online & correspondence RSA training is NOT suitable for new staff or RMLV staff.

All staff employed prior to 1 January 2009 have until 30 June 2010 to complete an OLGR RSA.  CFT QLD offer this in class for groups. The CFT online and correspondence RSA training is valid until 30 June 2010. RSA training for volunteers will not be mandatory provided they are supervised by an RSA-trained individual. A licensee or permittee must take reasonable steps to ensure that this supervision is provided.  Click here to view OLGR Mandatory Training Fact Sheet
