Australian State & Territory RSA Requirements

The RSA Certificate is the Responsible Service of Alcohol which you will need if you want to work in a bar or serving alcohol.

Please read the requirements for each state or territory as they differ throughout Australia.

New South Wales

A Liquor Administration Board (LAB) approved certificate is the only one accepted in NSW.

Victoria

Nationally-recognised RSA online training is NOT accepted in Victoria:

The RSA certificate approved by the director of Liquor Licensing is only available through in-class training only. Contact CFT on 1300 665 633 for details of RSA classes.

Queensland

Queensland OLGR RSA Training Course Certificate is required for all staff to work in licensed venues in Queensland within 30days of starting employment.

Staff who have a nationally recognised or current other State or Territory RSA certificate can do the OLGR Approved RSA Bridging course online. (see CFT QLD Bridging course online on our website)

If you hold a Queensland Liquor Licensing certificate and need to renew it, you must undertake the full OLGR RSA training course certificate, NOT the bridging course - there is NO refresher course approved in Queensland.

Volunteers serving or supplying alcohol will not be required to hold a current RSA training course certificates if performing duties under one of the following license categories:

  • community club license
  • community other license
  • community liquor permit
  • restricted liquor permit

In these instances, the licensee/permittee must take reasonable steps to ensure there is a person with current OLGR RSA training to supervise with volunteers.

OLGR RSA Online you get 2 certificates: OLGR RSA training course certificate and a national RSA certificate for those who travel. (read each state requirement). The national unit is NOT suitable for RMLV or Queensland participants.

RMLV staff require an OLGR approved RSA certificate valid for 3 years. (CFT QLD offer this online or at face-to-face classes).
