Betting Booms in hard times

New State Government figures reveal that spending on virtually all forms of gambling is up this year in comparison to the same period in 2008.
Punting is predicted to peak again this month as the latest payouts from the Federal Government's economic stimulus package hit bank accounts.
Betting on horse racing is up 12 per cent, followed by lottery spending (including scratchies) which is up 6.98 per cent.
