Food Safety - Kids Learn Bad Habits

One-quarter of Queensland centres to not get kids to wash their hands after toileting and before eating, while one-third of centres have potentially dangerous items accessible by children. 
 

The high incidence of failure to wash hands is worrying, as children are dubbed as "superspreaders" for their ability to rapidly transmit germs from child to child through sneezing, coughing and touching.
 

Childcare centres must have their accreditation renewed every two years. Assessors form the National Childcare Accreditation Council visited 318 centres between July and December 2009. The report from these centres shows that a number of centres have failed on more than two consecutive occasions.
