RSA - Fake IDs better than ever as the number made by authentic stolen machines is rising

NIGHTCLUB owners are demanding two forms of ID from suspected under-age revellers because the number of fake IDs made by authentic stolen machines is rising.

Club owners have reported a steady rise in the number of "real" drivers' licences made by licence machines stolen from VicRoads offices and sold on the black market.

Eleven VicRoads licensing machines have been stolen since 1998, and despite the gradual phasing in of a new licensing system announced last month, the old IDs will still be valid for up to 10 years.

Mr Iwaniak said that if cunning under-age clubbers managed to get inside with a fake licence the fines were much greater for the clubs, so it was in clubs' interests to check more than one form of identification if there was any doubt.

"It is a problem and there are some other very sophisticated fake IDs out there," he said.

"If there's any doubt we ask for two forms of ID."
