School Lunches get an overhaul
Simple days of writing your lunch on a brown paper bag with the loose change floating around in it are gone... extravagant lunches, fancy breakfasts and special snacks are what most Gold Coast tuckshops are serving these days.
Parents can order lunches for their children online at www.flexischools.com.au or even on a smart phone using a specially developed app.
Students approve of the new menus, saying that these gourmet options help them make a healthier choice when it comes to lunch... and they're cheap! $4.50 at All Saints School can get you chicken, spinach and mushroom penne in parmesan cream sauce, vegetarian tortellini in basil and tomato sauce or a gnocchi in a tomato bolognaise sauce.
Snacks at All Saints School include guacamole, hummus or salsa and sour cream dipping trays with carrots, celery, tomato and crackers for only $2.60.
Voted best school breakfast is Emmanuel College, with pancakes and maple syrup for $3, or a bacon and egg muffin for $3.50.
