Daniel Ferris planted a syringe in a can of butternut pumpkin soup in the hope of suing and getting a financial payout. He emailed the American headquarters of Campbells Soup to seek financial compensation and then aired his complaint to former shock jock Derryn Hinch on Melbourne radio station 3AW. He also reported the incident to police and followed it up with a false written statement a month later.
But he ended up in the soup when it was proven that the syringe could not pass through the processing equipment.
The Magistrate was not impressed telling Mr Ferris that this offence is very serious and a message must be sent that you cannot do this type of thing.
