A restauranteur was fined $20,000 for breaches under the Food Act, with the maximum penalty being $50,000.
After a routine inspection from Gold Coast City Council health inspectors uncovered grease, grime and cockroach remains in the food preparation area. The inspector followed up a further two times and on the third inspection the restaurant was infested with cockroaches.
Upon moving the fridge live roach eggs together with roaches running over the cook top and over uncovered food on the stove.
The restaurant has now been given a clean bill of health.
This could cause loss of business.
