Food safety just as important as taste in 'Scores on Doors' video

The NSW Food Authority launched a new video promoting the 'Scores on Doors' programme during its regional visit to Merimbula on Thursday 31 July 2014 in recognition of the Bega Valley Shire Council's joining of the recently refreshed and improved programme.

The 'Scores on Doors' programme is a star rating system that is based upon a routine unannounced food hygiene and safety inspection of a food business.

NSW Food Authority's Peter Day said that the programme, " ... takes the guess work out of what's really going on behind the scenes of your local cafe, take away or restaurant. That transperancy is of benefit to both the business and its customers and potential customers."

A food business is assessed against a standardised food safety checklist and assigned a star rating that reflects their performance. The result of the inspection is then displayed in a prominent position in that business, giving consumers transperent access to information as well as the ability to to make informed choices about what they eat and where they eat.
