Foodservice operators urged to end guide dog discrimination

Sending a reminder out to all restaurants and cafés that it is illegal to refuse entry to a blind or vision impaired resident and their guide dog under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth) (Section 9 & 23).  Fines will be issued if caught doing so. After research has shown that the number of these individuals who have been discriminated against exceeded 50%, with the majority occurring within cafés and restaurants, Guide Dogs NSW/ACT want to put an end to this discrimination.

With dog access laws being put in place for more than 30 years there is simply no excuse for it. Guide Dogs NSW/ACT have partnered up with NSW Police Force and ACT to raise awareness and hope to resolve this issue quickly, or else further actions may have to be taken.
