Keeping Staff Save during the Festive Season

During the festive season patron numbers may increase substantially. During this period you need to remember that you have obligations to provide a safe environment for patrons and staff within and around your venue. Don’t forget to ensure that your staff have an RSA certificate and mindful that staff are always practising the responsible service of alcohol.

Crowd control: Employ the right ratio of security to patrons and manage patron numbers and patron queues to prevent congestion. Don't allow areas to become congested. Make sure that any incidents are dealt with quickly and, where applicable, recorded in an incident register.

Drinking water: Remember it is your responsibility as a licensee to always provide drinking water to patrons.
Noise: Discourage people from lingering outside your venue to help keep the noise levels down .An increase in patrons may create more noise, which may cause a disturbance to your neighbours.

Patron behaviour: Watch out for any disorderly and intoxicated patrons. Step in if you think behaviour is out-of-line or could cause harm to staff or other patrons.

Refusal of service: Remember, under the Liquor Act 1992, it is an offence to serve alcohol to, or allow alcohol to be consumed by, an unduly intoxicated or disorderly person. You also have the right to ask a person to leave a licensed premises if the person is creating a disturbance. You have the right to refuse service or entry if a patron is unduly intoxicated or disorderly, if the safety of the patron or others is in jeopardy, or if you consider the refusal of service warranted.
