Queensland Gaming Employees license no longer required.

The Queensland government has announced that the Gaming Employees License is no longer required for staff to work in the club and hotel gaming areas. Staff who work in gaming areas and carry out gaming duties are still required to undertake a Queensland Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) approved Responsible Service of Gambling Training Course.

There are still a number of other licences types required in Queensland, depending on your job description, these have not been affected by the decision to cease the Gaming Employees License. The other license types are:

There are a number of policies and procedures in place in Queensland liquor and gaming venues to ensure the reduction of potential social harms and The Queensland Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) is responsible for issuing approvals and licences to individuals who are seeking employment in the liquor and gaming industry within Queensland.

Premier Campbell Newman has announced that the appointment of an expert panel to address the overload of red tape strangling the liquor and gaming industry.

Some of the proposed changes include:

  • Liquor and Gaming license applications will no longer need to be advertised in the Government Gazette and local newspapers, this will save businesses up to $1,500.
  • The removal of the requirement that clubs are to report changes to the board within a week
  • The introcution of a cashless ticket-in, ticket-out technology on gaming machines
  • The removal of the renewal requirements for clubs and hotesl gaming machine licenses, saving $435 per applicant.
