Salmonella cases linked to Bandicoots

Health investigators believe that bandicoots pooing in the sandpits may be the cause of a mystery salmonella outbreak in Sydney.

The outbreak required a number of Sydney playgrounds to be closed and dozens of children were stuck down with gastroenteritis.

The outbreak occurred between 2007 and 2009 on the Northern beaches, during which, three toddlers had to be admitted to hospital with severe diarrhoea, vomiting and stomach pain. 72 other cases were reported, the majority of them young children.
