The State Government has moved to restrict access to powdered alcohol after a controversial new product was approved for sale in the US this year.
The State’s alcohol regulations were amended this week to define powdered alcohol legally as liquor.
Racing and Gaming Minister Colin Holt said the Government could now take further action to limit the sale and supply of powdered alcohol.
“Powdered alcohol must first be prescribed as a kind of liquor under the Act for it to be declared an undesirable liquor product should the need arise,” he said.
Should the product become available in WA, it can only be sold to persons over the age of 18 years at licensed premises and in line with the responsible service of alcohol.
